In an ecological pyramid, all plant life that gives the next level on the pyramid energy is on the bottom level. For the Philippines, that would be the mangroves, ferns, orchids, and cogon (coarse grass lands). In the mangrove region, many worms thrive in the swampy area, making it a popular place for birds such as jungle fowl, kingfishers, and herons. The flooding caused by Tropical Storm Washi would affect the amount of worms that are available to the birds. This would cause the birds to lose their main source of energy, bringing down the percentage of worms from 10% to roughly about 5%. This would change the whole pyramid: the bottom about 50%, marine worms about 5%, and the birds about .5%. Losing even one thing in the whole pyramid changes the way energy flows in a food web, especially when an animals main source of energy is lost.
